Beautifully braided sweetgrass that smells better than any perfume! It will be used in ceremony. For now it is sweetly scenting my home. It arrived very quickly, too. I will order from this wonderful shop again. Miigwech.

Hi, Dinah! Great question! You are correct that sweetgrass is a medicine and traditionally, medicines are to be gifted. Many Native people do not condone the selling of sweetgrass, while others do not have an opinion on the matter. One of the goals of SweetGrass is making these products accessible for all Native people, even those in urban areas who may not have access to these items. SweetGrass is owned by the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, a Native owned business that is sensitive to the nature of handling these products. When you purchase these items from SweetGrass, you are supporting a Tribal-owned company, your purchase contributes to the Native Scholarship Program, and also supports the various Tribal entities we work with to increase economic development and sovereignty.

Hi! I’m studying (and loving) Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book “Braiding Sweetgrass,” and was looking for a way to find/trade for some sweetgrass. (Or to get it in an appropriately reciprocal way … I thought it’s not okay to buy/sell it?) I love that it’s available on your site!! Would you be able to explain why it might be okay to buy it? THANK YOU!!
Molly Roe –
Glad to hear it, Wayne!

Hi Mary. Sweetgrass is used for prayers and smudging in Native ceremonies. It can also be burned like sage to purify your home.
