This 1 oz. bar blends bison and 100% grass-fed beef, both raised without antibiotics or added hormones, with mineral-rich sea salt, tart berries, maple sap-water, and sumac—a plant native to Turtle Island (North America) known for its tangy flavor and antioxidant properties. Like all Pemmican Patty products, this new flavor is rooted in ancestral knowledge and carefully crafted with ingredients selected for their sustainability, cultural connection, and health benefits.
Pemmican Patty Food Company was founded by Patricia Mabin, a descendant of Chief Little Thunder and Old Wild Rice of the Pembina/Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Inspired by a conversation with her brother on the Turtle Mountain Reservation, Patricia set out to revitalize a traditional Indigenous survival food and carry her culture into the present day. After overcoming decades of personal challenges—including addiction, poverty, and homelessness—Patricia found new purpose through the creation of Pemmican Patty. Drawing on her Métis heritage and the foodways of her ancestors, she created a clean, modern version of pemmican to nourish others while preserving cultural traditions.
Historically, pemmican was a vital food source for Indigenous people, made from dried meat and rendered fat to last indefinitely and provide long-lasting energy. It was often chewed like jerky or used as a soup base. Today, Pemmican Patty honors that tradition while offering a clean, modern-day version packed with protein and nutrients—perfect for hikes, long days, or quick bites on the go.
