Five ways to use Sakari Farms Blueberry Sweetgrass Hot Sauce this winter

Sakari Farms, owned by an Inupiaq woman and member of the Chugach Alaska Native Corporation and Valdez Native Tribe, is located in Bend, Oregon. Their mild Blueberry Sweetgrass Hot Sauce blends blueberries, apples, farm-grown sweetgrass, habaneros, and a touch of maple sugar, creating a bright, sweet heat that pairs beautifully with winter dishes. It’s also a 2024 Scovie Award winner, an honor recognizing the best in spicy and flavorful foods across the U.S.

Here are five creative ways to enjoy it this season.

  1. Winter Breakfast Bowls

A drizzle over warm oatmeal or cream of wheat gives your breakfast a lift. The blueberry and maple notes complement cozy winter flavors, and the mild heat keeps things interesting without overpowering your bowl.

  1. Sheet-Pan Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Toss roasted Brussels sprouts with a spoonful of the hot sauce right after they come out of the oven. The warm vegetables help the sauce coat evenly, bringing out the lemon zest and allspice in a delicious way.

  1. Baked Brie with Blueberry Sweetgrass Glaze

Spread a thin layer of the hot sauce on top of a wheel of Brie before baking. When the cheese softens, the sauce becomes a glossy, sweet-spicy topping that pairs beautifully with crackers or apple slices—a cozy winter appetizer.

  1. Winter Salad Vinaigrette

Whisk the hot sauce with olive oil, a splash of apple cider vinegar, and a little honey for a quick vinaigrette. It works especially well on salads featuring roasted squash, toasted nuts, or dried cranberries.

  1. Roasted Root Vegetables

Toss carrots, parsnips, or sweet potatoes with a spoonful of the hot sauce before roasting. The sauce enhances the natural sweetness of the vegetables while adding a subtle kick that feels perfect for chilly winter nights.
