The 2026 live racing season at Atokad Downs recently came to an end, and SweetGrass Trading Company was proud to be part of the action.
Located in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Atokad Downs hosted live Thoroughbred racing over two weekends, August 29–30 and September 5–7. SweetGrass sponsored one of the races during the meet, giving us an opportunity to represent the company and connect with the community.
Atokad Downs is managed by WarHorse Gaming, a subsidiary of Ho-Chunk, Inc., making the event a great opportunity for several Ho-Chunk, Inc. companies to come together and support an event in the region.
A weekend of racing and community
The Atokad races offered something for the whole family. Admission was free, and visitors could watch live horse racing, enjoy food and drinks from local vendors, take part in giveaways and visit the kids’ zone. The meet also included the annual hat contest and traditional Winnebago dancing.
For those interested in the racing experience, wagering was available to guests 21 and older.
This year’s meet also showcased improvements at Atokad Downs, including a new paddock area, a jockey building and an expanded backside barn with room for more than 60 horses. Additional improvements are planned as development continues in the area.
SweetGrass at Atokad
For SweetGrass Trading Company, sponsoring a race was a chance to be involved in an event connected to Ho-Chunk, Inc. and the surrounding community.
SweetGrass Trading Company is part of Ho-Chunk Trading Group, a subsidiary of Ho-Chunk, Inc., the economic development corporation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Being part of the Ho-Chunk, Inc. family gives SweetGrass opportunities to support and participate in events and initiatives happening throughout the communities where our companies operate.
We were proud to have SweetGrass represented at this year’s Atokad Downs meet and to help support an event that brings people together for racing, entertainment and community.
