Medicine Grizzly Herbs is owned by Blackfeet tribal member Pauline Matt and her daughter, Veronica Kempfert, who were both born and raised on the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana. Together, they continue a family legacy rooted in traditional herbal knowledge that has been developed and shared over more than 30 years.
Pauline has spent decades studying, gathering and working with native plants found on and around the Blackfeet Reservation and Glacier National Park. Her knowledge of medicinal herbs has brought visitors from around the world to learn about traditional Blackfeet plant use through presentations and educational programs.
Today, Veronica is continuing that work alongside her mother, learning firsthand about identifying, gathering and preparing native plants. Their shared time outdoors fishing, hunting and camping also helps strengthen the connection between their family, the land and the traditions they continue to preserve.
Medicine Grizzly Herbs reflects generations of knowledge and a deep respect for the natural world. The Blackfeet people have long used native plants such as yarrow, chokecherry, sweetgrass, arnica, valerian root and red osier dogwood for their traditional medicinal properties. That knowledge continues to inspire the herbal products Pauline and Veronica create today.
